About

Hello! My name is Brianna, and I’m a huge food nerd. I’m so glad you’re here, and I’m excited to share my cooking journey with you on Gradual Chef.

I believe patience is a virtue. It’s also an area in which I’m not particularly virtuous. In a world of endless how-to videos, I tend to feel like I should be good at everything I do, preferably immediately. The information is right at my fingertips! I can learn to do just about anything, and in 30-second snippets! If all these regular people inviting me to “get ready with them” can apply flawless makeup, I should be able to, too! (OK, I digress…)

However, I’m finding life to be more enjoyable the more I embrace the slowness of progress. Most skills take more than a couple of hours (and certainly more than 30 seconds) to learn and perhaps years to master. This, of course, includes cooking. Luckily, I think anyone can learn to make good food—or become their own chef—by applying small improvements each time they cook.

On this site, I want to share little things I’ve learned as a passionate home cook that have made my food better. They may be common, even elementary, recipe instructions that are rarely explained and often overlooked. Or, they might be more unusual tips I’ve learned from rabbit-hole research sessions. I’ll highlight one or two tips per post in the “Tip of the Day.” If they’re new to you or something you usually skip when cooking, I encourage you to try them out. And whether you’re learning with me or are already two (or more) steps ahead of me, I hope you enjoy the recipes I create as I explore the culinary world.

Let’s enjoy the process of becoming gradual chefs.
